Chapter Eighteen

“Okay wait, I’m confused,” Jessica sighed, plopping down on Eason’s bed.

Eason moved from her position lying on her bed so that she was propped up by one arm, getting a better view of her two best friends. Jessica had been pacing the room as Eason had explained what was going on, while Lily had listened patiently, lying down beside Eason. Now that Jessica had stopped pacing, Eason could look at both her friends without fear of getting dizzy.

“What are you confused about?” Eason asked.

“Well Claire was using Fia when they were dating,” Lily intervened, “So I don’t understand why it is that she went through all that effort to find out who you were just to…”

“Do you not have faith in anyone?” Eason interrupted, exasperated. It had been confusing enough when Fia had called her that afternoon to explain what had happened while she was at lunch with Claire. “Fia trusts her, therefore I do too.”

“Wasn’t Claire’s exact line something like, ‘you’re too trusting and that’s why we’re having this conversation’ to Fia?” Jessica scoffed.

“Yes.”

“Being too trusting is never a good thing,” Jessica continued, “I mean I trusted my sky diving instructor to deal with the parachute, but look where that got me.” The brunette gestured to the brace encasing her leg. Neither Eason nor Lily fed in to the lie. Both girls had lost track of how many different stories Jessica had provided for the cause of her handicap. To Jessica’s credit though, neither believed they’d heard the same story twice.

“If Claire wanted to expose Fia and I, she wouldn’t have warned Fia. That just wouldn’t make any sense. According to Fia, Claire found the photo online. She’d been trolling around Tumblr when she stumbled across it. It was some random person that had captured the photo and thought Fia looked like Ophelia, but figured it wasn’t actually her. The person must have had like no followers, because the photo got no notes. Fia has already contacted Tumblr and the photo isn’t even there anymore.”

“So she just stumbled upon the photo and just wanted to bring it up to Fia just so she knew that Claire knew?” Lily questioned, “That sounds hella sketchy to me.”

“She’s not a horrible person,” Eason muttered, “You’re acting like she’s the devil incarnate.”

Both Jessica and Lily looked at her like she had three heads.

“Well you’re trying to convince us that Fia's gold-digging ex-girlfriend just wanted to give Fia a friendly heads up that she knew who you were, and that’s all?” Jessica scoffed.

“Well that’s not entirely all of it,” Eason added with a sigh. She knew that Claire could have done much worse than she had and it had taken Eason over an hour to get Fia to calm down after she met with Claire for lunch. Fia had been hell-bent on trying to find some legal loophole to sue Claire for threatening her and Eason, but Eason had convinced Fia that Claire wasn’t actually doing anything wrong. In fact, Claire was helping Fia in a way.
